Meet Our Team

Dr. Olutola Adetona

Olutola Adetona, M.D., M.P.H.

Olutola is a 1995 graduate of the University of Ibadan Medical school in Nigeria, after which, he completed a one-year internship at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria. In 2004, Olutola was accepted into the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA) pediatric residency program completing two years, then finalizing his residency training at the Texas A&M Health Science Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 2008, Olutola became Assistant Professor and Attending Emergency Room Physician at the Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi. Prior to establishing Practical Approach Pediatrics and Pediatric Dentistry, he was a successful Emergency Room Pediatric Physician and a general pediatrician in San Antonio, Texas. He completed his Masters of Public Health at the UTHSC-Houston.

Dr. Omolola Adetona
Pediatric Dentist

Omolola Adetona, D.D.S.

Omolola graduated dental school at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Upon earning her degree, she spent one year at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Lagos, Nigeria completing an internship in general dentistry. In 2004, Omolola became a Pediatric Dentist at the UTHSCSA, after which, she became an Assistant Professor in the department. While at UTHSCSA, she also earned a certificate of Forensic Odontology and became a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Prior to establishing Practical Approach Pediatrics and Pediatric Dentistry, Omolola practiced as an Associate Pediatric Dentist in San Antonio, Texas and as a consultant in forensic dentistry with a special interest in child abuse and neglect.


Drs. Adetona have been married since 1998 and are the proud parents of two wonderful children – Teniade and Adelani. As a family, they enjoy spending time together on road trips, and love outdoor activities. Their faith in God and salvation through Christ, however, is the characteristic which they believe defines them the most.

Lead Nurse Practitioner

Mary Elaine Hyman, CPNP-PC

Mary Elaine “Lainie” is our Nurse Practitioner from Jacksonville, Florida. She graduated with her RN/MSN in Pediatric Advanced Practice Nursing from Vanderbilt University in 2017. Before attending Vanderbilt, Lainie attained her bachelors in Health Promotion from the University of Georgia. Lainie moved to San Antonio in the fall of 2017 with her boyfriend, Bo, a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force. The two enjoy taking weekend road trips, cooking (lots of pasta and seafood), and everything outdoors. Lainie’s background in Health Promotion and her holistic approach to pediatric care make her an excellent addition to our team. She believes firmly that family is at the center of pediatric well-being, and looks very forward to working with yours.

Jo Anna Ramirez

Born and raised in Victoria TX, a wife to Justin, a professional drummer and a mother of 2 (Cadence and Darian) who is working towards her Bachelors in Health Care and Business Management. She has been in the medical field for 10 years in the fields of neurology, ophthalmology, orthopedics and now she loves pediatrics and working with children. She loves country music, family time back home and quiet times in the country. Her main goal in life is to guide people in their faith and their love for God.

Joe Scott (June 6, 1974 - August 19, 2012)

Joe Scott was an important part of our team in the early years of Practical Approach Pediatrics. He lived in San Antonio for eight years. His first career was as an executive chef for 14 years. In 2006 he graduated with his RN from Baptist School of Nursing. He held a black belt in Shotokan karate and had a total of 25 years of martial arts training. He enjoyed all aspects of art and food. He was married to a wonderful woman with four children. Joe’s nursing specialty was pediatric emergency/trauma and his goal was to keep kids safe and educate families to better facilitate a happy and productive childhood. We will always remember him and remain grateful for his impact.
